This upcoming part isn't anything I have that I can back up with facts, and will probably be downvoted on US/Eurocentric Reddit (assuming anybody reads this far into the thread) but I also have a problem with how many products from other parts of the world are subject to intense scrutiny or even outright misinformation in the "West" on the grounds of environmental or health concerns. I'm not saying that it's wrong to impose regulations or question imported products, in fact it's a very good thing. However, oftentimes, companies and even countries are quick to go against seemingly malevolent "foreign" products after some quick controversy, in this case people slapping the face of an orangutan onto anti-palm oil campaigns. Furthermore, many of these countries profited from the rampant deforestation of their own lands and/or exploitation of resources from smaller, marginalised communities either within their country or outside. This has enabled many Western/Northern European countries and the US to prosper, but what about the rest of the world where many of our resources were taken? All that we're doing is trying to use what we have left to attempt to catch up with the "Western World" economically by doing what they did centuries ago. Of course, as a global collective, we know better but realistically, we have no other idea how to increase our standards of Baby Yoda I Don’t Care What Day It Is It’s Early I’m Grumpy I Want Pepsi Shirt living other than emulating what the "Western World" showed us.Almost everything we consume in this world is rooted in unsustainable practice.
